Frequently asked questions
Do I need a sworn translation to have my degree recognised?
Yes. Procedures for homologation, equivalence and recognition of studies require an official translation of the degree when it is written in a language other than that of the destination country.
Is the degree enough, or do I also need the academic transcript?
Both are almost always required: the degree certifies the qualification and the transcript details the subjects, the credits and the grades. Check the list of documents published by the authority before ordering.
Does the degree have to be apostilled?
For use in another country in the Hague Convention, yes. Obtain the apostille first: it is part of the document and is translated too, which saves you having to repeat the translation.
What standing does the translation have?
It is signed by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, with certification, signature and stamp. Since 2020 a qualified electronic signature has the same validity as paper.
