Frequently asked questions
Which procedures require a sworn translation of a marriage certificate?
Mainly family reunification, residence cards for family members of EU citizens, nationality, registration of the marriage with the Civil Registry, divorce with a foreign element and inheritance proceedings.
Does my foreign certificate have to be legalised?
Yes. If it comes from a country in the Hague Convention, an apostille is enough; in all other cases consular legalisation is required. That stamp is translated as well, so obtain the complete document first.
Is the translation valid before the Civil Registry?
Yes. It is signed by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, with their stamp on every page. This is the format accepted by registries, courts and immigration offices.
How many pages does my certificate have?
Count every written side, including the apostille and the stamps on the back: they are all part of the document and are translated. If you are unsure, send the complete scan and we will confirm it before starting.
