Frequently asked questions
Do you have to translate the entire family record book?
Not always. Often, only the pages proving the relevant family relationship need to be translated, such as marriage, children’s births or registered deaths. Send the complete scan so the required written pages can be identified.
What procedures require it?
It is commonly requested for family reunification, residence cards for family members of EU citizens, school enrolment abroad, family benefits and nationality applications. Confirm the exact document required with the receiving authority.
Will a family record book be accepted, or do I need separate certificates?
It depends on the authority. Many authorities prefer recent full-form certificates issued by the Civil Registry because they are easier to verify. Confirm the requirement before ordering the translation.
What validity does the translation have?
The translation is signed and stamped by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the receiving authority asks for a paper original or additional formalities, confirm that requirement before ordering.
