Frequently asked questions
Do I need a sworn translation of my criminal record certificate?
Yes, whenever you submit it to an authority whose official language is not the one the certificate is written in. This is the norm in nationality, residence, visa, adoption and public recruitment procedures.
Does the certificate have to be apostilled before it is translated?
Yes, if the document is to take effect in another country that has signed the Hague Convention. The apostille is part of the document and is translated too, so it is best to obtain it before ordering the translation.
Does the translation carry an official signature and stamp?
It is produced by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and it carries their signature and their stamp. Since 2020 the Office for Language Interpretation has accepted qualified electronic signatures: the PDF has the same validity as the paper copy.
How do I send the document and how do I receive the translation?
Upload the scan or the photograph of the certificate using the form on this page and indicate the source and target languages. You will receive the sworn translation as a signed PDF. If you need the stamped paper copy, add postal delivery.
