Frequently asked questions
Can I use a multilingual certificate instead of a sworn translation?
Sometimes. The multilingual certificate under the 1976 Vienna Convention and the standard form under Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 avoid the need for a translation between the countries that accept them. Outside those cases, or if the authority expressly requires it, a sworn translation is needed.
Should I request the full-form certificate or the extract?
For nationality, marriage, civil registry entries or inheritance matters, the full-form certificate, which reproduces the complete record, is usually required. Check with the authority which version they ask for before ordering the translation.
Who signs the translation?
A sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. Their signature and their stamp appear on every page, together with the official certification attesting that the text is faithful.
In what format do I receive the translation?
As an electronically signed PDF, ready to attach to your online application. If the authority asks for the paper copy, add postal delivery and we will send it to you signed and stamped.
